Chapter 17

ne of Haumavarga thugs, Razan, entered noisily into the cave.

“How are you today, flower?” he asked Nisa. The woman frown, the boy looked at him angrily. “Once your husband will be useless, I shall have a chance to know you closer, beauty,” he laughed.

“I want to talk to the head of your pack again,” Nevir said

“The pack you say? Watch your mouth! You can talk to him when he wants to talk to you. Not otherwise” Razan grew in rage.

They were arguing, both raising the tone of aggression in their voices. The little boy was sincerely on the side of the noukeer. Argun met a real noukeer for the first time in his life, but the mother told him about them before. And Nevir is Gazgirdee, coming from a family of heroes. It was a significant event in a boy’s life. Haumavarga ‘camp head’ as Argun called him, Taman, entered the cave.

“What is going on here?” Taman asked angrily and spat on the ground, “What noise are you making here?”

“He wants to speak to our warlord.”

“He isn’t here,” Taman said, turning to Nevir, “You can bring your matter to me. What is it?”

‘Very good, the leader is gone,’ Nevir thought.

“Warlord,” Nevir smirked. “Isn’t it a too big title for a thug who runs a gang of filthy lowlifes?”

Once noukeer said that Razan became furious. Taman tried to hold him, but Nevir pissed him off too. The little boy was looking at how they kicking him, beating him, pushing to the entrance. The mighty man started to crawl to the cave entrance. Thugs began laughing at him and beating him up with rage. The boy could not stand the injustice, their mocking jokes, sound of the beaten body. These cowards know that in a fair fight, they won't win a noukeer. They even wouldn’t dare to look into his eyes. But now, mighty noukeer, who already became his hero, is crawling while these thugs kicking him, wallowing him in the dust like a puppy.

Childish sincere rage choked the boy; he could hardly breathe. Argun sprinted toward thugs screaming. He was beating them with the best he could. They were laughing for some time. His fists gave them not much pain. But then Razan bored of it and shoved the boy hard. Fortunately, Nisa held him up in time, and Argun didn't hit his head to the stones. Nevir kicked Razan instantly in the knee, and foe cried out for pain, hobbled limping. Nevir looked at Nisa. She was holding her son tighter. He could not give her a sign that he will come back, but somehow she understood what on his mind and nodded. After all, she was a partisan in the war.

“This beast is too heavy,” Razan gasped.

They continued to beat him up even when he crawled outside the cave. Argun tried to get rid of the mother’s arms. The woman was holding him tightly with tied hands, pulling him to herself.

“Enough,” she said, gasping, “Please, Argun, there is nothing you can do.
